How to manage passwords with KeePass 2

Uni Graz account Linux Mac OS X Windows iOS Security Android

Password Safe allows you to safely manage many different passwords. These instructions help you to create and manage a Password Safe with KeePass 2.

A password safe can help you to easily manage many different passwords or frequently changing passwords. You can download KeePassXC from the developer's download area. An Android version is also available under the name Keepass2Android, as well as an offline version for the very security-conscious.

Short overview

KeePass 2 is a popular Open Source Program that is available in a portable version for Windows and Linux, amongst others. It is distributed under the GPL licence and is free to use. However, the creation of a Password Safe is time-consuming and only viable if you have a lot of passwords to manage.

Warning! It can be problematic to use Password Safe. The problem is, not memorising passwords leads to forgetting them. If you lose (loss, theft or damage) your USB memory stick or your device on which passwords are saved, it could lead to a total loss of all passwords. We recommend that you make a backup copy of Password Safe!
